Papers, 1863-1917.

One Civil War diary, 1863, with a cash account in the back, records troop activities including foraging for food, preparing for battles, and burying the dead. A second diary, 1882, is largely empty but records some of Coleman's travels that year. There are letters to Coleman from his wife, Matilda Coleman, while he was visiting the South and Midwest. One letter from a friend, Joseph G. Cottingham and one to Matilda Coleman pertain to a Flag Day Ceremony. There is also a receipt for dues in a lodge ("A.F. & A.M. Dr."), form letters from National and California Associations of Vicksburg Veterans and from Charles F. Lummis on the letterhead of the Sequoya League, and a telegram from Matilda to Joseph Coleman.
